Where can I go to find Aladdin or Arabian themed Wedding Cakes and decor?

I am Indian but my fiance is Middle Eastern so I want to bring in some culture. I am Christian, so I wont be having a traditional "Indian" wedding. Thats why I like the idea of an Arabian Nights theme. I dont want to go overboard and make it look like a circus. And even though I want most of it to be white, I want to add some bold Indian/Middle Eastern color. Starting with the cake. But I cant even find a pic or two just to give me an idea. If I could find anything with Disney Aladdin and Jasmine on a magic carpet.... would be perfect.

There was a movie I used to watch when I was little...what was the name?

It was a cartoon, kinda Aladdin, Arabian Nights-ish. It was about a Princess ( a lot like Jasmine from Aladdin) and like a shoe maker or pauper. They end up falling in love.

And the palace the princess lived in had 3 golden balls at the top that "protected" the people or something like that.

That's about all I can remember.....anyone have any clue what the name was?

Time to plant?

With the weather warming, like many of us, I am DYING to start some seeds. I have an unheated greenhouse, with a dirt floor, fiberglass roof, and fiberglass walls. There are single pane windows on every side, and the walls are covered in house wrap. When is it safe to start some seeds out there? Can I harden off my plants in there as well? If they are inside this dwelling, will they still get frosted/froze? I took them out of their insulated building today that has artificial light, to give them some sunlight and fresh air, but was afraid to leave them out all night, especially not weaning them off the warmth. I live in Zone 5 and have plants of every type, from orchids to jasmine, to cactus and succulents. I have thousands of seeds that I can direct sow, but some I prefer to start myself. When I can I use my new greenhouse!!

get a high/low thermometer and put it in there that way you will know what temperature it is running at night. (they cost about $10-15)

if possible look into getting a bench mat or seed sprouting mat that will extend the usefulness of your greenhouse several months.

Any how...arrange the seed that you do have in the order that they can be sowed.

the varieties that can take the cold: peas, spinach, lobelia, pansies, petunias, broccoli, cauliflower, etc

once you know what the night temp is in the greenhouse you will have a better idea of how much stuff you can get stared on.

there are a lot of seeds that need the heat to sprout but are just fine in an area with cooler temps once they are above ground.

if the greenhouse is running cold at night increase the thermal mass within the structure ( rock, bricks, jugs of water, cement etc) this will also help it from having wildly fluctuating temps.

a lot of plants can handle lows of about 43 without slowing them down.

4th of july me and my boyfriend planned 2 hang out so when the time came i had a few of my other friends come also 4 girls and a boy so when i called my bf 2 ask him if he was gonna come he said no i asked why and he said because it seemed like i already had plans. so i was like what do u mean i had plans 2 hang out with u but he got mad a started calling me dumb and a ***** and he hung out with his friends then he texted me and told me that he never wants 2 hang out with me again or talk 2 me but later that night he called me and asked me where i was and then we met up but he wouldnt talk 2 me at all then we went to mcdonalds and i sat with my friend jasmine at a booth and he sat a table with his friends so then this guy raymundo sat next to me idk if that made him mad or not but i dont like raymundo eww and i would never think of cheating on him so later he walked me half way home and then all of a sudden he left later we made up a little and he kissed me he still doesnt trust me

yes i totally agree with you. I'm becoming a vet to help the anI'mals in the shelters. I'm gonna reserve a right to open a haven to rescue them and bring them back to health. im also trying to find a way to make a law in new york to increase the punishment for animal abusers, ban animals testing, ban circuses (they force there animals to do things its impossible for them to do and beat them til there "tame" starve them and hit them constantly) and ban many other animals cruelty actions. its hard work but ill make it.

My wife and I seem to have made a rod for our own backs by always giving our little girl, Jasmine, a dummy (pacifier) whenever she is a bit grouchy or tired. Now she won't go to sleep at night without it, although she does sleep perfectly with it. Also when she's happy, which is most of the time, she isn't that interested in the dummy unless offered it directly.

This is far from a desparate situation but we both feel that it would be better if she relied on the dummy less over the next year or so rather than more which I would presume woud happen if we let it.

I'm sure there must be plenty of parents out there with tried and tested techniques for dummy use reduction so I thought, rather than trying to "re-invent the wheel" and work it out ourselves, I'd put this out to the Yahoo community.

I think it's a little too soon to take it away. I would try to limit it to when she is sick or sleepy, but if she really wants it..it's OK to give it to her. It wont affect her teeth at this point.

When you do decide to get rid of it (I suggest around 15-18 months old-wait until there are no vacations or things like that). Do it cold-turkey. We told my older son (he was 17 months old) the "pa" is all gone. It broke my heart the first night. He cried and cried and so did I. The next night he asked for it and we said "all gone"...he cried for about a minute. He never asked for it after that (and never cried about going to sleep either). We are approaching that point with my second son (probably next month or so) and will do it the same way.
Reply:Hi Brian,as a Mother of 22month old who still has a dummy to sleep with I don't personally worry about it.

He only has it at nap time and bed time, it stay in his bedroom and when its time to go to sleep its "dum dum" time. God knows how and when I'll get it off him but I figure he's not going to be 10 with a dummy! (I hope!) and that eventually when he's old enough to realise its for babies he'll give it up. Its not big deal in the whole scheme of things compared with other things in the life of a toddler.

If you do however still decide to ditch the dummy I would personally go with getting rid of it during the day first if that's a problem, leave it a few weeks then try the night time. it'll probably take a few sleepless nights and a fair amount of tears but its all short term, you'll get there in the end.

My Mum in law had 8 kids and she just cut the ends off of them all when it was time to give it up! (may work better with older kids though!) Good luck with it.
Reply:Well you seem quite desperate to get your daughter off the pacifier, even though i am not a parent myself, i have seen what my mother did to get rid of the addiction. Before hand ing the pacifier to your daughter, dip it in something that does not taste good or at least to her, like prune juice or dab some lipstick on the sucking part, do this for a while and hopefully she will get sick of the nasty taste.
Reply:It is very difficult to try to wean a child from it's dummy. Your daughter is only 1 year old and obviously finds it comforting. If you do manage to wean her off the dummy she will probably start to suck her thumb and then you really will have a problem. Thumb sucking can carry on for years, even into adolescence. Whereas a dummy will eventually be gotten rid of. Thumb sucking over a long period of time can cause problems with teeth, not so much dummies. My advice (from experience) would be to stick with the dummy and your daughter will eventually get rid of it.
Reply:you need to be strong and just bin the dummies! both my children had dummies since birth but only asked for them the first night after they had been thrown away. my daughters sent theirs to the "baby reindeers" at christmas and we actually put them in an envelope and posted them in a postbox! how about sending your daughters to the "easter bunny"? make sure you you get rid of them all so you wont be tempted to give in at 3 in the morning and give her one! good luck
Reply:The best advice i can give is to get your baby to throw it away themselves, then you can tell her she threw it away herself and just be strong and dont give her another one. I did this myself it works!! Of course it will take a couple of days but i found that i gave my little boy one of my teddies to lay with and he was happy knowing he had mummys teddy.
Reply:a daycare my kids went to would snip the tips off and the child couldnt suck on it. they would get mad at the "plug" and toss it out and wouldnt stick it back in their mouth. a child there was 24/7 on it and even had speach problems due to the stuck in his mouth all the time. he was 3 and they broke him in a few days.
Reply:i am still going through the same situation.. basically you are gonna have to hide it or throw it away. out of sight out of mind.. that is the best answer.. my son used to use it to go to bed... along with the bottle.. of water.. but now nothing.. out of sight out of mind.. let em cry it out... nothing wrong with that
Reply:Simple really, chuck it out. Give it to the dummy fairies who live in the bin and get on with life without it. This may be quite hard the first few nights, but Jasmine will forget about it in record time! When she asks for it during the day, just say it's gone and distract her with something else until the moment has passed. Give her a favourite teddy to cuddle at night, ignore the crying, don't discuss it at all or make a fuss about it, and you'll find she will learn to get herself to sleep very quickly.

A lot of parents try to wean kids away from things like this slowly, and just end up with more hassle from the follow on problems! YOU are in control, grit your teeth, prepare for a night or two of wailing, and throw it out! It will be over before you know it!!

Reply:She seems a little young yet, try only letting her have it at bedtime, we managed with our son at 2 by collecting all the dummies and leaving them out for the dummy fairy who left him a surprise for being such a big boy. Its not an easy task, especially when they are very tired or unwell, but if she is only having it for bed chances are she will spit it out as soon as she is asleep.
Reply:I would advise this gradual withdrawal:

First, confine the paci to the car and house. It is never to be seen in public again. If she has it in the car, she has to leave it in the carseat when she leaves the car. Etc.

Then, when that is acceptable and no longer a fuss (sounds like she's already halfway there on that one), then limit it to the house. It always stays home and never leaves. When she's used to that, limit it to the bed. It never leaves the bed. Ever.

Now at that point you have a decision to make--if you want to lose the pacifier at bedtime as well, sooner or later you'll have to just take it away and let her fuss. Most people don't mind leaving it for bed only till 3 years old or so, once they get to the bed-only point. It's up to you. Personally I think the sooner you take it away 100%, the better. The younger they are, the faster they will get over the "cold turkey" part when you take it away at bedtime.
Reply:With our younger son my husband and I decided to keep dummies in the bedroom as far as possible. As our son got older and his understanding of what was said to him developed (around 15 months) we told him the dummy lived by his bed. He accepted this as he, like your daughter, was a contented child. In part I put this down to his having a dummy in the first place! Sometimes he would go to his room and have a quick chew on his dummy then put it back in the special dish where it lived. We made quite a big thing of all this "living by the bed" and "special dish" with its "little lid" business and never denied his dummy to him when we were at home.

Eventually (though he was about 3) he had given up completely until he found one under the bed, well-chewed and covered in fluff. He made the decision that it wasn't needed after having a good suck on it!

I think you are right to plan this now but giving your daughter some control over the situation will help her to stay feeling comforted by her dummy without it dominating her waking hours.

Reply:well the best time is usually christmas, and put it on the christmas tree for Santa coming to take it away, but as its a while till christmas,the best thing i can suggest is let her have to go to sleep and take it away from her then

then if she starts to whinge for it, try and tell her even though it will be hard for her to understand, just say shes a big girl now and she doesn't need a dodo(as most call it)

and say the dummy fairy came to take it to give it to another baby

it may take a few tries but keep at it, it will work in the end trust me

Reply:My daughter has a dummy but we leave it in her bedroom so she knows it is only for sleep. She will not need braces and a dummy is better then sucking a thumb as you cannot take that away. I personally would restict it to the bedroom only and who cares if she has it till she's 20 for bed. I had mine till I was 4 years old and my daughter is now 3 years old and always has it for sleep it doesn't bother me at all. Distraction is the only way during the day and why should it bother you at night, she might start sucking on her thumb if you take it away now as she is so use to sucking on it for night time. I would leave her with a dummy for bed only.

Reply:I think every child is going to be different - and that's the point - don't think that you must conform to some perfect idea of when the dummy should go.

My 20 month old gave up on his own a month or so back, and it took a week ... First of all my wife and I agreed to stop buying any new ones in the shopping, so he only had his old pacifiers to use, BUT WE DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE. We let him have a dummy when he wanted but without offering. Then over the next few weeks as he started to bite through his old ones he would reject them. After two or three times you could tell he was losing interest in the whole thing.

Have small garden containing orange jasmine, gardinia, hibiscus and bouganvillea. Only the bougainvillea is doing well; the other plants, without exception possess yellow leaves and/or green leaves that are yellowing.

I live in central florida, zone 10.

ok ive heard a voice 3 times in the last 6 years or so. 2 times in the last 5 months actually the first time was like 6 years ago.

could it be where im in the half awake stage of sleep or drifting into sleep that causes it?

here a few days ago i heard it say ''hello Jasmine'' and i automatically opened my eyes and was wide awake. kinda bothered me for a bit and set me into one of my paranoidish states.

they have sounded different these 3 times.

could that just be normal and brush it off unless it comes more pronounced?

ive also had an episode where i woke up one night and thought there were aliens in my room. i was so in tune with my sences that i thought i heard it breathing. i know this sounds nuts and that i need to be put away but it litterly scared the crap outta me.

My yard where I had lived before NAFTA put the company I worked for into Mexico, and put 2500 people out of work in a small Mississippi town had over 200 rose bushes in elevated beds, with a border of 14 rose trees, and a 30 foot long trellis covered walkway covered with climbing roses. The fence was covered with pink wild roses which only bloomed once a year. I had to sell and move, and the people who bought it bulldozed them all up and relandscaped the yard. That was 10 years ago, and it still pains me. Thank you for the beautiful sentiment on roses.

I shampoo %26amp; condition my hair pretty much every night.

My hair always looks greasy when it dries by itself or if i blowdry it.

It looks greasy up by my scalp and goes down like 2 inches, then i gets fine and healthy looking. I don't have dandruff or anything.

What causes this / how can i fix it?

you need to stop washing your hair so much, every time you wash your hair your washing away all the natural oils that your hair produces to keep it looking nice.

and in between washes try a little baby powder on a soft makeup brush to take the greasy look off your hair.

If none of these works, try sprinkle baby powder on your hands rub them together to get the excess off and then run your hands through your hair at the scalp. It really works and doesn't look like there is anything in your hair.Monistat powder is a beauty secret for sure. It's marked for your hoo hoo, but its good for what i just said, as well as keeping your feet from sweating in your shoes, and keeping your pits from chafing in the summer time. A little goes a long way on the hair thing tho. Try it out at home first, till you find out what the right amount is. Also bumble and bumble make a powder for the same reason , but in blonde, brown and black shades that blend with your hair. The color is really unnecessary, and expensive, but if it makes you feel better. you will also notice that your hair has more lift at the roots if you do this.

Iam Jasmine 23 yrs , My last period was on January 5 , According to my doctor my ovulation was on 25 Jna. On 24 %26amp; 25 I had sex with my hus. On 23,24,25,26 had a little blood in brown colour came . That I told to my doctor he told me its not a problem. Normally my period coming 32/34 , but this time my period not yet came. Today is Feb 21 means its already completed 46 days. Last Friday I gone to hospital %26amp; tale a pregnancy test. It was negative. Normally during my period time I feel too much pain. From Last week I feel too much pain from my abdomen %26amp; ovary. But its only for 2 , 3 minutes. Night time also its coming . So I cannot sleep well. For this last week I taken a ultrasound scan on my uterus part. Doctor told me no problem everything is ok.. Then today I gone to Hospital and take urine test %26amp; ultrasound scan on my Abdomen %26amp; kidney , for is there any chance for urinary infection or stone in kidney, but it was ok no problem, I saw a nephrorologist, he told me everything is ok no problem. Today its already 52days , no period, I feel pain from my vagina, and from breast.I don’t know wts happening, Anybody have the same symptoms please let me know, please give me a reply as soon as possible, with details. Iam so worried about it , ia pregnant or not ?

What kind of pregnancy test did you take? Urine or Blood... If you did not get a blood test then I would request one of those.

Chapter 1

The sun had barely rose above the mountain peaks. Princess Devondra was sleeping silently in her soft, silky sheets.

It may seem she was comfy, but she was no where near it.

When she was a child, a drunken man had threw a sword and scarred, her back. Devondra was alone when it happened. She hasn't told anyone.

The worse part was that the sword that hit her, was a magician's sword. So the sword left a spell inside her. The spell was a curse, whenever she got angry, or sad, or in love the scar split open in pain. The curse also made her have horrible dreams.

Devondra never loved, got angry or sad, since. Well she has every once in a while. And she had strange dreams, every night.

Devondra woke up. She had dreamt of death. Corpses lying all around her. Cold and emotionless.

Devondra, still lying on her side, stared blankly at a picture, on her nightstand.

The picture was of her and her mother, Queen Jasmine. The picture was taken a year before she died.

last night i had a dream that it was 1999 again and i was 5 again. i was in my old house in the netherlands and i had all my old friends. except no one was speaking dutch, they were speaking english. and i was just re-living some big events in 1999 like parties, school stuff, ceremonies, stuff like that. when i woke up it made me feel sad and i started feeling homesick.

my friend jasmine told me today that she might be moving cuz of her dad's job. i love her like a sister and i would be so depressed if she moved. she said her dad might transfer to the hospital which is like a half hour away from their house and she wouldnt have to move anywhere far away.

i need some comfort right now. if anyone can cheer me up even a little that would be great.

oh and i also have chorus tomorrow and now my dumb-a.s.s teacher thinks im depressed or something! i have no idea where she got that idea from! maybe its cuz im never happy in chorus cuz i dont like it but whatever, shes crazy!!

THE GOOD NAPKINS ...ahhhhh...the joys of having Girls...

My mother taught me to read when I was four years old (her first mistake).

One day, I was in the bathroom and noticed one of the cabinet doors was ajar. I read the box in the cabinet. I then asked my mother why she was keeping 'napkins' in the bathroom. Didn't they belong in the kitchen? Not wanting to burden me with unnecessary facts, she told me that those were for "special occasions" (her second mistake).

Now fast forward a few months....It's Thanksgiving Day, and my folks are leaving to pick up my uncle and his wife for dinner. Mom had assignments for all of us while they were gone. Mine was to set the table. When they returned, my uncle came in first and immediately burst into laughter. Next came his wife who gasped, then began giggling. Next came my father, who roared with laughter. Then came Mom, who almost died of embarrassment when she saw each place setting on the table with a "special occasion" Kotex napkin at each plate, with the fork carefully arranged on top. I had even tucked the little tail in so they didn't hang off the edge!!

My mother asked me why I used these and, of course, my response sent the other adults into further fits of laughter. "But, Mom, you said they were for special occasions!!!" Pass this on to your girlfriends who need a good laugh or anyone who has a daughter !
Reply:I think the best way to cheer up is to do nice things for other people. Make some cookies and give them to your friends, give a homeless person a couple dollars, tell a friend what you admire about him/her. Whatever you can think of - get creative. That's the best way to cheer up. That and a very intense workout.

I have 3 good friends,we are really close.Well I work 11p-7a,and I went to 7-11 last night to get some coffee and a roll,and I see one of my friends with the other friends man.Now the thing is my other friend had just called me and said her man was going out with the boys.Now after 7yrs it seems like the last 3mths been kinda on the brinks.My friend was like girl he just needed someone to talk to.So I did'nt say nothing but I told her you know you wrong.He said nothing,just stayed in the back by the beer until I left.I wanna tell Michelle that I saw Jasmine with Darryl,or do I mind my buisness?They looked like they was tore up (drunk).I just want to do the right thing.Any advice!

Oh that is a hard choice, if you tell Michelle she will think you are wrong, just becasue she doens't want to be hurt, if Jasmine and Darryl say you're a liar! you will lose 2 friends at once, but if you say nothing you will lose Michelle becasue she will be mad you knew and didn't say anything! I would tell Michelle but just be aware of the outcome...

Reply:Mind your business. I've seen these things flip, and you won't want to be in the middle. But, if there is ever a situation where you can show your friend what her boyfriend is doing, rather than just telling her, you could consider doing that.
Reply:I have to say I would not want to be you right now. What I do have to say is that although it is personal, you are friends after all. And friends, and I mean real friends would not do what your friend is doing to your other friend. So I guess you know who your friends are in this situation. If it were me, I would tell the other person who does not know what is going on because it is obvious that the other friend is not a real friend. If you lose one friend or both at least you know who your real friend is. What you could also do is to confront the one that is in the wrong and tell her that she ought to be honest. Oh yes, and the guy who is double dating is also a jerk. I would not want a guy who will be unfaithful to me and especially with a 'friend'. So in this case, her boyfriend is a jerk and so is this so called friend. And you have done the right thing. Infidelity is not a good thing,it is a disease and can be solved.

Upset Tummy, Fluid Retention, Headaches & Tired?

I am 29yo with 2 young children. Over the last 2 years I have lost 37kg and feeling much better for a healthy diet and I exercise with a trainer 3-4 times a week. (Iam 165cm and 71kg now) But over the last month I have started to feel tired all the time (generally sleep 8-9hrs a night). Bloated stomach, obvious to people, terrible headaches and upset tummy with cramps and needing to go to the bathroom 3-4 times a day,-(Not everyday, about 2-3 times a week) I have not been to the doctor as I thought it was just being busy over Xmas, but now life is back to normal and has been for last 2-3 weeks and feeling worse not better. I do not take any medication, except the contraceptive pill (Jasmine) and generally have a berocca (multi-vit) most mornings. Have I got something wrong, or am I being over the top ?

I do think there is something wrong and I think you should atleast call your doctors office for information. It might be alot of things, but better safe than sorry.

She met him at the front door wearing nothing but a long satin robe and matching thongs underneath. His breathe caught in his throat as he watched her take his hand and lead him into the master bath where a tub was full of steaming scented bath water and relaxing swirls of foam caused by the hidden jets underneath. As he realized the full impact of what this night held she was slowly lowering his pants and running her long red nails down the inside of his thigh. At last those fingers returned to the part of him that ached uncontrollably only to be tormented further by there stalling along the base of his shaft. Unknowingly a moan of turtore escaped his tightly closed lips. Her eyes met his and a small teasing smile came across her face as she saw his predictament. He reached for her to bring her the same but she quickly slid to the side to avoid his taking control. No words were said and none were needed. Her hands were carassing her creamy irish skin underneath the edges of the satin. They slowly made their way down to her own pair of restraints and slipped them down to show a perfectly made triangle of curls. He was frozen to the spot where he stood as his hazel eyes slowly analyzed the treat that waited for him. Her beautiful ocean blue eyes came into focus as she moved in front of him slidding her robe off her shoulders to land in a puddle of blue on the floor. His only thoughts were of those hands running up and down his manhood, and then the burning that he felt as she took him into her. A whole new heat surrounded him and trapped him to her. What is the best way to end a juice fast?

i started my fast last night after half a plain yam, and stirfried mushroom, pepper and squash. and i will be on a fast for the next three days. the only things that will be injested are carrot, apple. passion fruit, blueberry, and banana juice, as well as water, and perhaps jasmine or green tea unsweetened.

i know after a fast, you need to be careful what you are eating, the whole saying of "never break a fast with a feast," so i need some suggestions for what to eat when i come out of it, it is only a three day one but that is still a strain on the system and will still be difficult to return from.

oh yeah, i am also becoming a vegaterian afterwards, (dairy and eggs included for now.)

What is the best way to end a juice fast?
Eat light foods with fiber - no refined things like candy bars. I'd start off with just fruits and vegetables for the first day, then implement your vegetarian diet. An apple should be fine at first - don't eat too much too fast. Wait about an hour before eating anything else. Start off with tiny-sized portions throughout that first day post-fast: eat often, but only very little. It can be tempting to stuff yourself full on the first day, but really, fight the urge! It's important to eat lots of natural and easily-digestible things on that first day, with lots of fiber, as that stuff will likely stay in your GI tract longer because it will have to wait another day for new food to push it out. Nuts on that first day may make you feel queasy, so don't eat any fatty, fried things - I guess cooked is okay, or steamed, but raw is better (though tougher to digest). I wouldn't eat any eggs or drink milk on that first day, since it may just run straight through you - especially dairy - if you don't have anything in your intestines to stop it (I say this from experience). Oatmeal is fine, but take it with fruit and lots of water... and avoir kiwifruit and grapefruit, as they (especially the grapefruit) will make you bloat and cause weird noises in your guts (happened to me while I was in class, sooo embarassing!). Personally, I think apples are the best bet post-fast as the first thing you should eat, and veggies, too. You should treat the first day of your fast as a "manual cleasing" of the inner channel of you gut, so don't expect to eat "normally" on that day.

Reply:Start back with the vegetables and the fruit...coming out of a fast is difficult, you really* have to ease your body back into it. After about two weeks of vegetables and fruit I suggest adding (veggie) protein shakes, as they will not upset your stomach as it is sensitive to solids still.

After the shakes I would think about adding pasta and some veggie sauce to it, to work back on. You need to ease your body much more AFTER a fast than you do before one. After about a week of that, you should be good to go.
Reply:It depends on how long you have fasted. I agree, apples are food #1 for fast-breaking. But start small, a 1/2 apple at first, or else you might be doubled over with cramps. I also made a vegetable broth with carrots, celery, garlic, ginger, and hot peppers. Whenever I began to eat solid foods, for 2-3 days I would also drink lots of this broth to keep it nice and liquidy in there and to prevent my stomach from being bombarded. Yogi Tea's stomach ease tea helps to prevent discomfort as your body adjusts to food again. If you've done a short fast (2-4 days) break on day 1-2, broth %26amp; miso soup, day 2-3 small amounts of raw fruits %26amp; smoothies. Day 3-4 ready for real soup %26amp; sushi!! If fasting for longer I would do this for a week. Happy fasting!

Why are our Beagles lethargic at nightime?

Our Beagles became lethargic about a week ago. Jasmine(2yrs) and Frankie(1.5yrs) are both acting normal, playing, eating, normal stool. The only problem is they recently started vomiting during the night, once or twice then they are fine. Other than that they are two wonderful kids :)

Why are our Beagles lethargic at nightime?
How many times a day are you feeding them? Beagles will become nauseous and vomit up bile if their stomachs are empty. If you're feeding once a day in the morning, split the portion in 2 and feed once in the morning and once in the evening.

Reply:If you are feeding them too much then that can cause vomiting. Also if you recently switched brands of dog food, that could be a cause. And they can't exactly be acting lethargic and "acting normal, playing" at the same time. If they are lethargic then they will be acting drowsy and slow, and probably not playing. If the problem continues, take them to your vet.

Okay, well there is this girl, her name is Jasmine and I don't know if she likes me or is just being a friend. She loves to hang out with me whenever she has time and whenever its possible. She always calls me day or night. She gives me hugs like shes never going to see me all the time, and she asked me to the homecoming, and when i said i was going to a different state and had no choice, she cried. Shes my best friend, and my friends keep telling me she loves me to death, but i dont know if she is just trying to be a friend, and i've asked her about 3 times if she liked me, and she blushed like mad, and said nooooo. Does she honestly like me or not ?

It sounds to me like you both like each other. She might be afraid it will ruin your friendship if she tells you or she might be afraid of rejection.

My suggestion is to tell her how you feel about her and you might get the answer you are looking for from her.......:)

Iam Jasmine 23 yrs , My last period was on January 5 , According to my doctor my ovulation was on 25 Jna. On 24 %26amp; 25 I had sex with my hus. On 23,24,25,26 had a little blood in brown colour came . That I told to my doctor he told me its not a problem. Normally my period coming 32/34 , but this time my period not yet came. Today is Feb 21 means its already completed 46 days. Last Friday I gone to hospital %26amp; tale a pregnancy test. It was negative. Normally during my period time I feel too much pain. From Last week I feel too much pain from my abdomen %26amp; ovary. But its only for 2 , 3 minutes. Night time also its coming . So I cannot sleep well. For this last week I taken a ultrasound scan on my uterus part. Doctor told me no problem everything is ok.. Then today I gone to Hospital and take urine test %26amp; ultrasound scan on my Abdomen %26amp; kidney , for is there any chance for urinary infection or stone in kidney, but it was ok no problem, I saw a nephrorologist, he told me everything is ok no problem. Still have the pain. My doctor told me come after one week. .I don’t know wts happening, Anybody have the same symptoms please let me know, please give me a reply as soon as possible, with details. Iam so worried about it , ia pregnant or not ?

Ok you can do a few things number 1 go get a pregency test, 2 call a doctor call in OB/GYN not your primary doctor, 3 it could be normal because I was 13 years old when i did not have my period for 2 months and my mother thought I was pregnent and found out it was negaitve and i am still a vergin at that age I was not intrested in boys or even sexs,4 just do not stress it becuase that is what is effecting it, are you having stress at home or at work or even if you are in college if soo that is what is driggering it it happened to me many times during the years of my period it is normal

Fighting cats!?

Yesterday we got two six-month old cats, Rodney and Jasmine. Both from different litters but get on very well together. They were fine last night but have started fighting today. Does anyone know why and if/when it'll stop??

Hopefully when they are old enough you will have them neutered as fighting can be a prelude to mating.

It's possible they are playing.

It's also possible they are attempting to establish their territories.

It's a good idea to keep a spray bottle of water handy. When they start fighting, spray them. The important thing is NEVER to let them see that it's you who is spraying them. The reason for that is then they will associate you with punishment and not do the unwanted behavior only when you are around to spray them.

Reply:Unless one of your cats went outside for a brief moment and got a smell on her. Or it could be that one of the cats wants to be left alone. My two month old cats do the same thing. When one cat wants to be left alone and doesn't want to play with the other, it hisses or scratches. And they'll do that for hours until they finally give in and start wrestling. They'll be friends again sometime the next day.

Yup , you heard right.. You have got to let them know that neither one gets the power because its yours... I know that may sound strange but I have 3 females and 4 males and they know when I am upset with one or more of them..

Yes , they are seeking to be the dominant cat. If you want to wait for the solution,,, It could take a long time...Especially . if you have 2 very stubborn cats ( cats are naturally stubborn anyway)

The easiest way is to become the Alpha cat .. You make the rules and that solves it.. I know it works .. I am not saying there still won't be problems but There will be less problems...

Cats are like little kids and you have to be the parent... Hope this helps..
Reply:When you first got home with your cats, they were probably a little frightened after traveling and arriving in an unfamiliar place. Then as soon as it got dark, they felt more secure about exploring and getting acquainted with their new environment. The next step then is to establish who's going to be the boss...

Cats establish a hierarchy and constantly keep re-establishing it as new cats are introduced into the home and they test each other to see who will be king or queen of the castle. Sometimes they both think they are, and can't convince the other who's in charge...

They may or may not stop fighting, only time will tell.
Reply:it will die down but right now they are fighting to be the top cat. in every home were there is more than one cat one is alway in chage of the rest. my mom's cat dollie is like this and will show who is boss. so no worrys and if the fighting gets bad get a spray bottle fill it with water and change the setting from mist to the other one and get them wet its the best way to stop the fighting

Reply:Wow! I'm impressed, when I was 13 I could barely tie my shoelaces. The first thing I notice is the intensity and honesty of the emotions. The second thing is the poem's strong musicality. I would definitely buy the CD if and when you do make it. One thing I got a kick out of is the punctuation, which consists of exactly two commas. Since those are the only pauses, it worked this way for me: the first three lines are a statement of how you feel, and the rest is an outpouring of the emotions themselves. And there's no period at the end. I think that means that the situation remains unsolved, the emotion goes on in you, and you don't know what will happen next. I like the subtle and somewhat humorous use of irony: "I'm tired of looking at your pretty face," and paradox: "I miss you so much I feel like I'm dead," and "the Day's night" followed by "the moon's light." The ending is very powerful, another profound and subtle double use of paradox. First, the emotions are so intense that they are numbing. Second, that the remedy for this numbness needs to be "a breath of coldness." Were you intellectually aware of all I have said when you wrote this, or do you have a very good intuitive sense of creativity? Thank you for this poem. Boyfriend Problems: Stay or Leave?

My boyfriend and I have known each other for quite some time and we have been dating for over 4 months. Everything was great in the beginning and he was so sweet. He took me out often and bought me gifts for Valentine's day. The simple things he did were even sweeter. I ran out of apple juice (my favorite drink) and he surprised me with 2 huge gallon bottles. Another time we met late at night and after we kissed and hugged goodbye he yelled loudly across the gate "Goodnight Jasmine!!!!" That made me grin with happiness. Oh, can't forget to mention that I lost my virginity to this guy.

From the beginning, I knew he had a lot of female friends. Before we officially got to together he said he had his "flaws" and that he didn't want to hurt me. He said he was new to the whole serious relationship thing. Which I now think is just an excuse.

Lately, things have just gone downhill. He doesn't call me or text me like he used to.

To be continued? honey i think you should talk to him and let him know everything that you are thinking, good AND bad. Communication is the best thing in a relationship..i learned that . And maybe if you let him know how you feel about things He will understand and react to whatever hes doing wrong. I Know that the last thing u want now is to break up because thi guy will be very important to you since u lost your virginity with him. I totally understand what u are saying.

I guess my advice is talk it out and go allthe way for him, if he isnt interested in the relationship. then he will let you know.

But as longas you fight for him, and u sho him that U care, u will always know that u tried enough and that u did your part.

And i just wanna add, that no, relationships dont fade. yes u can get more comfortable with time and all but happines doesnt fade in a relationship.
Reply:I don't have too much experience with this, but I've been in a few relationships that lasted over a year, and they slowly went downhill beyond repair. It sounds like this is what yours is doing. If you're questioning breaking up with him and you're not happy, then break up with him. There's not much of a point in trying to fix it if he's not going to put forth the effort to do so. You can't change him or fix it yourself... from what you've said, it seems like the best option is to just move on.

Reply:My suggestion to you is to move on. He is obviously not ready to make any kind of commitment and wants to play the field. Don't call him or be available for him. He needs to see that you are moving on and not longing for him. If he is the right one for you, he will come back. If not, then you are better off. Don't make it easy for him to come and go in and out of your life. Ignore him for awhile and see what happens. In my "dating" days, I had similar problems and found that when all of a sudden I wasn't available and didn't answer the phone, things changed fast. Men can't stand it if they think you are no longer "pining" for them. LOL

you can do the rest based on this. Watch your tense confusion, You are writing statements from people concerning the past so don't use present tense verbs. And make sure that your subject and verb agreement matches. Singular with singular and plural with plural.

We've been married for about 6 months and I found out That I was pregnant about a week ago and I am crying really hard at night because I love him so much and he's dating another girl named Jasmine. He hasn't told me that he's been cheating but I found out by his phone, he left it at home and she called and left a message and I read it. I don't know what to do!

I love him and I'm pregnant and he's cheating on me. He never seemed ecxited that I was going to have a baby. I am really sad. What do I do?

Better you found out after 6 months in the marriage than years down the road - after having built your dreams with his. I know it hurts - but do you want your child raised with a man like that? If he did it to you - he'll do it to her. Get an anullment NOW before you have to split all your stuff. You can do it. I am a single mom of 3 and am much happier NOW than having a lieing cheatn' no good dog around me and my kids. Its tough but you can do it.

Reply:You need to talk to him about the situation. Figure out if your marriage can be saved, or if you need to move on and go your own way (he'd still be responsible for child support).

We can't tell you what to do...you have to make that decision yourself but it needs to start with communicating about this, and then you'll have to decide beyond that (counseling? divorce? him promising to stop and you wait and see?)

Reply:You will need to confront him. There are two ways he can react. He might admit to everything, open up, get help, be embarrassed and want to fix himself. He should be willing to be an open book completely (you have access to the cell phone, he lets you know where he is, etc) until he EARNS back your trust. But, don't bank on it...chances are, he'll admit it and waffle and make up excuses and fudge and hope to continue his affair while getting you to "trust" him again. I've been through this...the only hope is for you to put your foot down and demand that he act like a man, protect you and the child, and live up to his promises. If he can't, then he's not able to be an effective father and you might need to consider a split. But remember something - the split will have its own issues...the other woman may become his stepmother someday! Take a deep breath for now...there will be tough times ahead. Take care.

Reply:Well, there are several things going on here. Too many women just assume that their getting pregnant will/must be 100% accepted by their man. No, this is the sort of issue where BOTH people need to discuss it, beforehand, so that, when and if it happens, BOTH people are willing and happy for it to occur. So, its quite possible that your announcement about being pregnant has upset him, and that he is acting out, badly, I agree, because of that. Did you two discuss and agree on having a baby before you got pregnant ?

Given that mess, then you need to discuss all of this with him. Crying and moping is for children, who are passive when faced with life. Adults are active and they take charge of life, and take steps to arrive at better results. Your choice. Mope

You need to tell him clearly, that you don't want to continue if this is going to be his standard mode of operation.

So, here I am at home. It's about 2:30 pm ( I think I may start putting the time next to the date up there) and I am pretty bored, considering the fact that my dad is "sick" and I decided not to go to school today. Therefore, my dad decides he is taking away everything from my internet to playing guitar hero! :/ Whatevs, I stopped caring a while ago. As for my dad being "sick", I think he may have a minor headache ( which is totally normal for him, it's called asprin or whatever ) and sore throat. Even though he sounds terrible when he's talking, I just don't know. I don't think it was worth him staying home from work for a whole two days! I don't even have room to be talking to be brutally honest. This morning I had this bad feeling right in the pit of my stomach, but now I feel completely fine after a four good hours of sleep! :) Around noon, I told Mr. Ouch! My throat hurts, no work for me! that I was feeling better and wanted to get ready and go to school, but no! Of course not! Anything Jasmine wants today she isn't getting, even if it is returning back to school, which I am getting in trouble for in the first place! :Z All this is how ended up with this "journal" thing. I am so freaken' bored I resorted to clearing all the **** off my computer, and starting a journal on here! I guess it isn't too bad of an idea. I mean, I spend most of my time on this thing anyway. I should come up with a name for it! Haha. How about...Bertha?! Nah, I use that name all the time. Um...Andy! That's it! From now on my computer is going to be refered to as Andy, at least by me anyway. I probably won't write on this everyday. I will probably only write on it when I am either a.) extremely bored or b.) really feeling low about something. I tried writing in a diary a couple times. Let's just say actually writing things about the sick and twisted story of my life, is not my thing. :)

Hi, for the second time today! How are you? I am pretty pissed off. I'm a teenager, I'm hormonal, I'm blah blah blah. I have heard it a jillion times. So then, does every teenager feel like the whole world is out to get them? I swear! Annie (dad's physco girlfriend) and my father make up so much **** on the spot! It's like they dig and dig and dig for more for more things to use against me or ***** at me about. For example, I make one smart comment and they start yellin' at me for that, (which is halfway understandable) but then they sit there for the rest of the night and look for something to scream at me for! Like, later on I pour kool-aid on the counter instead of over the sink. Lord help us all! According to Annie and dad that is the end of the world and we need to ground Jasmine for it! Then, they keep saying, "I am the adult, and you are the child." I just wanna scream out, "THEN WHY DON'T YOU START ACTING LIKE ONE?!" Of ourse if I did that they would either a.) murder me right there on the spot or b.) ground me in my prison cell of a room for the rest of the month! What is a girl to do in this situation? Help!%26gt;.%26lt;

For one, the entries are one big block of text. Second, your character rambles. Also, she sounds insincere and dull. Finally, it's just some character's psychobabble.

I understand that this is how a typical teenage journal might sound (it hasn't been too long since I was there myself,) but this is writing and in writing prose--whatever format you put it in--has to be tight, concise, and interesting. I'm afraid that this is just the opposite right now.

Without knowing more about the project, I can't offer much advice. I can offer a few bits, though. For one, focus on conflict. Real conflict. Overarching conflict that will drive your character's story. Next, tighten up the writing, watch the crazy punctuation, and the rambling sentences.

Almost any idea can be pulled off well. However, poor execution will ruins the most brilliant concepts. Tread carefully, act professionally, and keep writing. Good luck!

She begs to go to expensive amusement park, I get tickets, yet she suddenly would rather see Spiderman 3. She is Muslim, from western Africa, %26amp; is dark skinned, yet she sees all black women as “ugly”. She loves princesses with blonde hair/ blue eyes like Cinderella whom she describes as “very beautiful” scoffing at the only dark skinned princess Disney ever tried to do a film on, who is also MUSLIM—“Princess Jasmine”. She refers to her as looking “OK” once she said Princess Jasmine was “ugly” %26amp; she didn’t want to see any movie that she was in (!!???).She hates it if I say Tyra Banks is one of the world’s most beautiful women! If I say Britney Spears is she is silent but does not go off about how Spears is “ugly” the way she does with Banks. She said that cutting my hair will attract “ghosts” to me %26amp; they may kill me at night (!?). I asked what about your father/brothers? Don’t they have short hair? She tells me everything is “different for women". How to deal w/this? Avoid her? I wish!

ANTM had an indian girl last season that saw herself as ugly. She thought she was ugly because a lot of people picked on her for being so dark, but obviously she wasn’t ugly. They picked her to be on the show!

I think she needs time to adjust. She’s still very young. Children remember everything, and it’s not so easy to shake off everything they learn from other people. She’ll be fine, just be patient and be a good step mom!
Reply:The changing her mind from amusement park to seeing the movie thing just sounds like typical adolescent behavior. Annoying, but not BAD. The other stuff.....I don't know. Perhaps she's been told that only white women are beautiful or has little self-esteem about how she looks. All I can recommend is to continue to remark on how women of color are beautiful if they come up in conversation and let her know that SHE is beautiful. She's a pre-teen and pre-teens lack confidence. Show her how ALL women are beautiful, not just Disney's white princesses. :)

You buying expensive tickets then her not using them isn't right. She needs to know the value of money. You said she is from Africa so i don't know why she would be like this being that country barley has money. But if you buy something like that then i would make her stick to her. It also teaches her responsibilities and to make her choices wisely and not just having you buy them because she thinks she wants to do it but doesn't really know because of maybe the way of life she was used to in Africa. Oh i hope i explained this part right. :|

And the other things about the killing and what not i would tell her how the American ways are. and maybe start getting her into your religion whatever it may be. But if those type of things get worse or are really bothering you then i would suggest taking her to a councilor or something.

Reply:Here is what the problem is. Any person that could heal, was considered a witch. When the priest would say there was no cure, and some little old lady would heal the person, both the healer and the healed would be called devil worshipers.

The christian church couldn't have people undermine the authority that the church had. The alternative would be that people would start following another religion. This is something that was held over from the roman times, when the Christians were burned as torches in the house of Nero. They would find the heretics saying only one god existed, and put them in jail. Then when Nero had a party, he would call for the prisoners to be put in cages with straw and oil on the straw. Over the course of the night they would light the straw for light, and entertainment. (some say dead, some say alive Christians were burned)

So when the Christian sects came into power, the cycle didn't stop. It is why suspected witches would be burned at the stake...

So, here I am at home. It's about 2:30 pm ( I think I may start putting the time next to the date up there) and I am pretty bored, considering the fact that my dad is "sick" and I decided not to go to school today. Therefore, my dad decides he is taking away everything from my internet to playing guitar hero! :/ Whatevs, I stopped caring a while ago. As for my dad being "sick", I think he may have a minor headache ( which is totally normal for him, it's called asprin or whatever ) and sore throat. Even though he sounds terrible when he's talking, I just don't know. I don't think it was worth him staying home from work for a whole two days! I don't even have room to be talking to be brutally honest. This morning I had this bad feeling right in the pit of my stomach, but now I feel completely fine after a four good hours of sleep! :) Around noon, I told Mr. Ouch! My throat hurts, no work for me! that I was feeling better and wanted to get ready and go to school, but no! Of course not! Anything Jasmine wants today she isn't getting, even if it is returning back to school, which I am getting in trouble for in the first place! :Z All this is how ended up with this "journal" thing. I am so freaken' bored I resorted to clearing all the **** off my computer, and starting a journal on here! I guess it isn't too bad of an idea. I mean, I spend most of my time on this thing anyway. I should come up with a name for it! Haha. How about...Bertha?! Nah, I use that name all the time. Um...Andy! That's it! From now on my computer is going to be refered to as Andy, at least by me anyway. I probably won't write on this everyday. I will probably only write on it when I am either a.) extremely bored or b.) really feeling low about something. I tried writing in a diary a couple times. Let's just say actually writing things about the sick and twisted story of my life, is not my thing. :)

Hi, for the second time today! How are you? I am pretty pissed off. I'm a teenager, I'm hormonal, I'm blah blah blah. I have heard it a jillion times. So then, does every teenager feel like the whole world is out to get them? I swear! Annie (dad's physco girlfriend) and my father make up so much **** on the spot! It's like they dig and dig and dig for more for more things to use against me or ***** at me about. For example, I make one smart comment and they start yellin' at me for that, (which is halfway understandable) but then they sit there for the rest of the night and look for something to scream at me for! Like, later on I pour kool-aid on the counter instead of over the sink. Lord help us all! According to Annie and dad that is the end of the world and we need to ground Jasmine for it! Then, they keep saying, "I am the adult, and you are the child." I just wanna scream out, "THEN WHY DON'T YOU START ACTING LIKE ONE?!" Of ourse if I did that they would either a.) murder me right there on the spot or b.) ground me in my prison cell of a room for the rest of the month! What is a girl to do in this situation? Well, I'm extremely picky and I never answer these questions. I read a lot of them but they are usually so bad that I would just sound like a jerk if I said what I thought. This is only the second one I've wanted to cheer for. So, CHEERS! You've really nailed the diary tone while still conveying a lot of information. You managed to tell us quite a bit about the story set-up without it ever sounding contrived or forced. That is a pet peeve of mine and something you see a lot of so I am really impressed. You also present what seems to be a "normal" character without her seeming boring, and created a thread for the reader to want to follow. The diary format is harder to do than it sounds and I really think you are on the right track. Keep going, for sure. I'd read more.

I'd have to say about 2 years ago, maybe 1 1/2, my newest cat Jasmine, who is 2 and a half now, had to get fixed u know, how cats do when they reach "that" age. so we did it, but she started acting different that day afterwards or a few days afterwards or something, and she wouldn't eat and all. well that night my mom called me to her room. i had to pass by the cats' food bowls and my cat jasmine was laying on her side w/ her head in the water bowl. scared the crap out of me. i tried to pick her up but she was all limp. i called my mom and she got her but she wasn't right so we took her to the emergency vet, and thank God, the next day came back to get her, and she was OK. i'm glad, but i have never been more scared in my life. i was so scared i had to throw up, which has NEVER happened. so anyway that scared me. how about u guys?

Here's the deal. She is 2 1/2 and (please no lectures) was going to bed with a milk bottle (her "baba") every night. We threw it away after explaining that it was time to be a "big girl". She has been fine during the day, but now she screams her head off every night. She knows it is gone, so she doesn't ask for it, but comes immediately out of her room balling every time I put her down to sleep. I have already put her down literally 12 times tonight starting at 8:00PM. We had the full bedtime routine with warm bath, brush, water, changed diaper (whole other issue), read a book, said our prayers, gave her, her favorite Jasmine doll that lights up when she hugs it, put on the nightlight, and gave the final kiss and hug. I am ballistic! I work during the day, Daddy works at night, I have no "me" time, and I have to get some sleep!!! I keep putting her back in her room, but she opens the door and comes out crying. Her 6 1/2 yr old sister shares the room and is exhausted from lack of sleep!

Consistency is key! When she come out of her room, take her back in and put her in bed. Do not look in her eyes and do not say anything to her at all. Do not show any emotion. It may take an hour of two for a couple of nights, but I guarantee that it will work.

But seriously, what kind of consequences do her actions bring about? you just put her to bed the hundredth time? Truly, a swift swat on the behind and an explanation that it is not okay to deprive the whole house of sleep should do the trick.
Reply:hmm see the problem here is that you taught your daughter to use 'the bottle' as a way to self-regulate. Most problems that parents have with their children is that they use 'bottles, pacifiers etc' and self-regulation tools. Now for the hard part, it is really nice to hear that you have developed a routine. Instead of just putting your child to sleep, establish a new routine. Such as, instead of a bottle use a 'sippy cup'. You and her can sit for 10 mins and drink milk. Then afterwards maybe try reading a bedtime story book 3 mins. Keep it short. Turn off the lights and say 'Goodnight'. There are other methods you can use. This is just one. Good luck!

you need to put your foot down, and NOW. if she gets up and cries about the whole bottle issue, so be it. ignore her. yes it's a major adjustment for her to go through, not having her bedtime bottle anymore. but it's unfair of her to keep her sister up all night. it's unfair of her to keep you from having a moment's peace before you go to bed, too. sounds like you're giving her everything she needs in order to have a good night's sleep. yet you let her control you and the situation. whose the parent and whose the child? you and her need to learn tough love. i'd suggest putting the other child somewhere else to sleep until the adjustment of no bedtime bottle is made. so that your 2 1/2 can do what she needs to do in order to get over it all, while her sister and you get some sleep.

the only other alternative you have is to give her a bedtime bottle, but just fill it up with water. or give her a cup of milk before she brushes her teeth at bedtime.
Reply:First, 2.5? Whats the big deal about giving her a bottle to go to bed? As long as she is eating properly and leaves it alone during the day, if it gets her off to sleep faster, let her have it. Explain that eventually she will have to stop that too, but going cold turkey is like taking cigarettes away from a smoker. Giver her the bed time baba but no others. Eventually switch the liquid in the baba to one that she perhaps isn't so fond of.....like water and offer her milk in a glass before she goes to bed. She will switch herself over before long. Sometimes my 2.5 year old just holds and empty baba to go to sleep and sometimes she has milk in it. You have to pick your battles. I'm sure no one has ever seen a bride walk down the aisle with a bottle in her mouth! Good luck!
Reply:We were in this bad habit for a while too. Bu when I decided to put my foot down I did not go cold turkey. We were using sippy cups (the Nuby kinds from walmart) and we first started by giving water instead of milk. then after a few dyas of that, no sippy at all. Worked liek a charm, because they got upset about having water when they wanted milk, but they don't need it. I let mine have milk about 20 minutes before bed if they want it, butmost of the time they don't anymore. They can have it if they choose and still brush their teeth before bed. My son still asks for drinks sometimes and I justtell him he can get one first thing in the morning. I know he's not thirsty he just had a drink lol.

You could reward her for staying in bed. Maybe for everynight she stays in bed she get s a star and when she has 7 stars she gets to do something special. After a couple rounds she will be used to sleeping in her room without getting up.

You could also tell her if she does not stay in her big girl bed like she is supposed to that you will put her in a crib again. I don't reccommend doing that, but my son hates if I threaten to treat hi like a baby because he insists on being a big boy. If I say he is acting like a baby by whining or crying or whatever, he immediately straightens up.

Ok so i'm starting a new chapter and in the last chapter it was the night before when this chapter is picking up. The girl had a really rough night. (This was really hard to explain so sorry if it didn't make any sense)

Jasmine was standing facing the right side of the sea. The Caribbean was beautiful in the morning, the bright aquamarine colored water, the distant sight of land, and the salty smelling air. Yet she felt horrible.

Help with starting sentences???!?

I like how it sounds. It provides a good contrast between Jasmine and the sea. There is a good transition too!

I'm getting very sick of my friends?

there are four of us. there is kayla, jasmine (who are best friends) and bethany and me. kayla and jasmine are the supposed leaders of the group and they always get pissed off at me and bethany. they like having us as a group but they get angry very easily. for example, i couldnt go to jasmine's dance concert because we couldnt sleepover afterwards and my mum didnt want me going home so late from the theatre. i also had work that night. i explained that too them the day before and they started swearing and screaming at me. i couldnt understand why they couldnt understand that it was my safety that was the concern. now they are fighting with me again over a stupid reason. should i stay with my friends or not?

I'm getting very sick of my friends?
wow. sounds like me and my old friends. we were the mean girls. accept im bethany and my best friend is you. she had that problem of not always making it and stuff. she had to leave prom early. and her parents did let her go to my farewell party.

anyways, kayla and jasmine are exactly like my ex-best friends. me and my bestie got sick of it. they'd stab in the back, and ruin my life. appartently for them my reputation was bigger than them. me and my bestie would be free when we had art classes, as kayla* and jasmine* did not take art. people in art class, were very cool, they loved being who they are, not caring about how popular we were. by the end of the school year. i got alot of people saying why are you friends with them? i really did think through it alot through my whole high school years. they treated me soo badly, ughh! after the school year was over, i said to kyla* and jasmine* it was over. they'll get over it. leave them now or suffer. if they are friends they should understand that u can't make it. just let them go.

computer security

Someone killing my vines?

I live in a small condo complex in Tx. I recently planted five vines on our front fence to dress up our property (wisteria, trumpet vine, star jasmine and carolina jasmine).

At least once a week I find where someone has put something that looks like salt crystals on the leaves. The first vine I lost since I didn't notice it soon enough. I now check them morning and night.

I was wondering if someone could tell me what this could possible be. It seems to turn the leaves brown almost overnight. I have had to cut back the trumpet vine and one of the star jasmine to almost nothing. In fact I think the jasmine is a goner. One of the wisteria is trying to make it. It's leaves are almost all brown on the edges but has stopped dropping them. The ends are still growing.

The other wisteria I apparently found before the stuff was on it very long. I gave it a good hosing and we ended up with just a few brown edged leaves.

What could this be - HELP- what can I use to counteract?

It looks like someone IS trying to kill your plants. You have different varities dying of the same thing. This is environmenal not disease.
Reply:Deer... Take 1 gallon of water to 7 Tablespoons of the hottest hot sauce you can find shake and spray on the plants. You will need to respray after rain/sprinkler. They should leave them alone regardless what is eating them.Good Luck....

Is it all in my head that I could be pregnant??

I finally made an appt. to get on the pill. I was spotting, which I have never done that in between periods (this was a week before I started) I told the doctor I had been really tired and moody. I have been getting really bad night sweats. They didn't give me a test there, just gave me the pill, she said it should help with all of those symptoms. So I started Sunday along with Jasmine and I was vomitting yesterday morning. And I was sick last night too. I know starting the pill can make you sick. So is that all it was? My boyfriend made the comment of how big my boobs were getting. Is this just all in my head??? I think it is, but I don't want to ignore it, if by chance it isn't.

Is it all in my head that I could be pregnant??
First and most important, you NEED to get off the pill. NEVER take the pill if you think you might be pregnant. Did you get your period? All these symptoms are signs of pregnancy. No pills are going to give you bigger breasts. If you're having sex, there's always a chance you could be pregnant. Your best bet is to take a pregnancy test and to get check by a doctor, but tell them you think you might be pregnant. Good luck and God Bless!
Reply:Honey the pill can do this to you. Your body is adjusting. If symptoms do not get better it may be best to get on a low dosage. I never could take the pill. They made me violently ill and had severe headaches.
Reply:The only way to know hun is to go take a test. Also, your doctor should have given you a pregnancy test BEFORE putting you on the pill. That's really strange that they didn't.. You may want to bring that up next time you go in.
Reply:Stop taking the pills right away and go back to the doctor. She should have tested you before she gave them. I don't trust home tests myself, but if that would make you feel better to start out with, by all means get one of those.

Reply:You need to take a test! Especially before you start the pill. If you are pregnant then the pill could hurt the baby. The baby would live, but may have some serious problems. Just take a test to be sure! The doctor should have taken a test first. Not smart on their part.

Reply:That is why you are supposed to wait for the Sunday AFTER your period starts to start the pill. Because there is a chance you could be pregnant. That is how I found out I was pregnant with my first son; I went to get on the pill. They didn't take a pregnancy test, said to wait until my period. My period never came. All of the symptoms you're having CAN be caused by the pill but you said that they started BEFORE you started taking the pill and if your gut is telling you that it's because you're pregnant, there's a good chance that you are. (I found out at 4 weeks but knew as early as 3 because of a gut feeling)

You know your body better than anyone, listen to it.

Get the test and find out before you take any more pills.

A good home pregnancy test is about 15.00. Worth the small expense.

Ok so I have really liked this girl named Lakyn and when I started to talk to her a lot, she told me that she doesn't like me at the moment so i waited a month and she still didn't like me, so recently we went on a trip ( our choir class) and I started to flirt with another girl named Jasmine and Lakyn started crying. She wants to feel wanted but may or may not like you. Pretty much, you did your part. You liked her and asked her out multiple times and she said she doesn't like you. At that point, any rational person would move on to the next person.

Go ahead and ask her out one more time because clearly she is jealous but if she doesn't like you, she doesn't deserve the right to be jealous of you flirting with someone else. Just let her know again that you like her a lot and you think that by the reaction that she had shows that she might like you too. And if she still says no, ask her why and if she ever will or is there something else keeping her from going out with you. Helping cat adjust to major changes & move?

Jasmine is almost 3 and the entire time she has lived with me, my (old) roommate and I lived together until last week. My roommate had two cats of her own, of which one of them (Princess) and Jasmine were almost like a couple (only, of course, they couldn't do anything!).

Well, I moved in with my boyfriend who Jasmine knows and Princess and Tommy went with my roommate, so now Jasmine is alone. She has to adjust not only to a new place where she only knows the smell of half the stuff (mine). All she has done since we moved here is cry the majority of the time. I feel absolutely terrible. It sounds like she is looking for the others and is sad.

We both work 8-9 hour days and at night she ALWAYS wants attention %26amp; cries. Any suggestions on how to help her adjust? I've tried to give her more attention and it worked during the day, but then she made even more noise at night - I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in a week!

Help would be greatly appreciated!!

I feel for the cat, but she will eventually become accustomed to the new routine. The good news is that cats generally sleep about 16 hours a day, which now leaves you only 8 to worry about. That said, is your place big enough to accomodate some cat furniture which allows the cat something new to play with? Also, how about some cat toys to keep her occupied? As to the always crying part, cats are extremely intelligent, and know who they are dealing with. Try a bit of tough love and don't always give into her appeals!

The vet told me to give him lots of attention when I was around but when I was going to be away from home for any legenth of time to use a pet carrier (one large enough for a large dog )and that would help him feel secure. Also to put his favorite blanket or toy in the carrier.I also had another experience with a cat having a hard time adjusting to a new place(well at least thats what I thought) when all along it was the floor cleaner the former tenents used and my cat was having a terribly hard time breathing. I finally had to get my regular cleaner and wash the floors about 10 times in one day so the cat felt better and much more willing to make it his new home Good Luck... A cat lover always
Reply:This is tricky. For now I'd get her bunch of toys and a scratching post or something, then spray them with a catnip scent(not all sprays work) to get her interested in them. Over time you might be able to find another cat that she'll get along with, but don't rush into it 'cause as a cat she's naturally territorial and if you bring home any old stray she may get jealous for your attention.
Reply:I must agree with Texansis, get her a playmate. You stated that Jasmine and her companion had always been together, she has never had to cope with being alone and always had someone to play with and sleep next to when you and your roomie were gone. I know how alone my dog was after her 'sister' died and she perked up when a new one came along, even if it was the neighbors dog. She would go out to play with the new dog every day. Most animals are pack driven and when they are alone, I think especially when they have never been so, they are scared. It is already hard enough on them when moving. Again, that last sentence is just my opinion.

As Jasmine is already grown, depending on how active she is, I would not suggest a kitten flat out. You can go to a pet adoption center and speak with a counsler or even talk to Jasmine's vet and they can give you the best guidance. Your best bet may be to get Jasmine a new playmate that is closer to her own age, maybe one over a year or so.

I would also strongly suggest taking Jasmine with you when you look for her a new companion as she is the one spending her time with the new cat. As well as to make sure she does like the new addition. I know how silly that sounds, but when I got my Schnauzer a new friend, I took her along and she picked out a little lab mix puppy, not the dog I was considering, but she kept pulling back to the Labs cage. They were the best of friends and hated being apart.

Reply:Poor thing. She is fretting for her friend and everything familiar. Leave around anything that has a familiar scent on it (bedding for example) from the other cat and/or the flat. Get another kitten eventually but make sure you fuss over her first or else she will get jealous. Watch out for her grooming exessively. It is a sign of stress and she may even start pulling her fur out. You may even have to take her to the vet for medication. Cats can get very neurotic.

This is between me and one of my great friends.

I was at a party last night, and I came across one of my friends, named Jasmine. She was fricking drunk and she started to fly around the room everywhere and crash into lamps and such. So, (I was sober at time), i decided to take her home.

As we got near her house, she started acting even weirder. She started confessing all these crimes that she THOUGHT she did. When I put her in her house, she grabbed me by my collar and threw my on the couch and she tried to strip me, but I knew she was drunk, so I tried to run, but she wouldnt let me go. Then she dropped, and fell asleep, and for some reason so did I. When I woke up she was standing over me, with no clothes on. She tried to convince me to have sx with her, but I had to say no. She explained that she has loved me for an extremely long time and that she needed to express her feelings toward me.

The problem is that I am in the middle of a relationship and I know im willing

I need some serious help right now...?

Well, it's not lunchtime here, it's 16:12, but I had a cheese sandwich for lunch. Sadly it wasn't a very nice sandwich, but I had pineapple for pudding, and that was really good!

Violence is the #1 affect of death in our communtiy. Did anyone hear about the liitle 4 year old girl Jasmine Owens who was shot in the head Monday night by a drive by shooter. This hits home for everyone in every community. Rather you have children or not, ENOUGH SHOULD BE ENOUGH!!!!!! It's sad that an innocent baby had to lose her life for someone else's ignorance.How do you feel about our babies being the victims now? What do you think needs to be done in our communities now?

I live in a bad neighborhood, and I sympathize with both the victims and the people too scared to get involved.

yesterday, while walking my dogs, a schizophrenic lady I barely know started screaming epithets at me. Should I simply walk away? Should I find some religious people to perform an exorcism? Should I have called the police about that fight in the house with all the HUD posters on it? Should I risk the retaliation for sticking my nose into other people's business?

The best I can do is teach my own children and my nieces and nephews that they do have more options than those they see. Many who resort to violence do so after years of looking for answers in all the wrong places, and see no other option but death and destruction. Gang members sell drugs because one stupid act that results in a felony conviction can prevent them from getting hired, but no one tells them they can still own and operate their own business legally. Many women stay in bad relationships because they need the financial support, they can't get babysitters and so they can't get a job, and become victims because they see no doors opening for them. And no one seems to be teaching anyone else how to forgive. Drive-by shootings happen when someone just can not forgive and forget and move on. Kids need to be taught that there is such a thing as forgiveness. they need to receive forgiveness and they need to forgive others. Then, maybe somewhere, something might change.

I do not let my x see our daughter because of MANY reasons including drug abuse, violent behavior etc....he can still see his daughter.He can take me to court I have kept a slight relationship with Jasmine. Well about a month ago I found out she was no longer aloud to see Rob. There have been pleanty of situations in the past where anyone with common sense would have ended his visitation rights. So I went to find out why. Jasmine and her mother told me (amound many other things) that one night when he came over late at night he touched her leg near her private area. well later on he was allowed to see her again. Honestly I can not see him doing something like thiat but her and her mother made it sound like it was serious. I went to see Jasmine and told her if she ever felt like someone was hurting her that it was okay to tell someone. Her mom called me a few hours later and was mad and said to let her handle it, that I scared her so that she doesn't want to see him . . .

Please put yourself in my position. . I have a daughter with (Rob) who has another daughter 6 years old?
I found it difficult to understand what you were saying but I gather that Rob has at least two children. Both of those are female and the mother of the other daughter who is not yours is saying that Rob's behaving in a sexually questionable manner with his child.

I have to tell you that because you said there have been multitudes of situations that Jasimine's mother could have used to end Rob's visitation....and did not, that there is very little liklihood that she is making one up to prevent him from seeing her. That puts up a big red flag where your daughter and Rob are concerned so I hope that you will make it clear to yours as well that no one is to touch her anywhere private or come near anywhere that is. I hope you will also tell her to be sure to let you know if anyone does and that it does not matter if it is a stranger, a family member, a minister, a teacher, you want to know. As far as Jasmine is concerned, it is her mother's place to tell her those same things and since she has stopped Rob's visitation because of it, I would think she has already told their daughter the same. Being told twice never hurts but I don't think I would have mentioned any names and I just would have made it clear that if anyone did that, it was to be told. The situation Jasmine just faced is a scarey one, especially when courts usually do not stop the visitation because of the behavior. We had a child wake us in the middle of the night hysterical. Once we let her in and calmed her we were able to call police after explaining the necessity to. Her father went to court, agreed to counseling and in the meantime prior to, during and after court she was still living with him-go figure. At best maybe Rob will have to do supervised visitation. Unless he lives with Jasmine's mother then maybe the best anyone can hope for is counseling and that the behavior will stop. The sad thing though is that psychiatrists don't seem to know of any way of stopping perverts. If Jasmine is going to have to keep on seeing her dad, that is probably why her mother is upset that it has been brought up again, if there is not much that can be done. I have grown up with scores of children who have been molested in the homes around me, and heard tales about (ficticious name:) Mr Jones next door assaulted his daughter and now is doing his granddaughter. In one case the girl told me that her grandfather told her he grew up on a farm and as a boy did the pigs and they did not mind!! Well, Mr Jones is a part time minister and seems so nice that I would not expect it but when two generations tell you it is so, it is time to believe. I guess John Gacey seemed like a really nice man too and what did he have 39 boys bodies in house floors and walls? Do you know all his neighbors and friends were surprised!! Do you also know that there were more bodies but it was so disgusting to police that the searching stopped there and the house was torn down? I guess that is how people with perversions get their victims-because they seem so nice and trustworthy. What about all the married men having good sex at home and raising families but get caught as serial rapists? I guess sick minds don't make alot of sense and you can't go by what you [ersonally know anymore. When someone, especially a child says there is something wrong, you have to listen and try to protect them, not say you can't see someone you know doing something like that. When you get right down to it, everyone who does sick things knows people and has a family, many times a very good family but that does not stop them from acting out on their darker side in the cover of secrecy. So to the best that I can, I have put myself in your position. You find it difficult to believe, but isn't it difficult for us to believe that ANYONE would do such things? As a result, warn your daughter, not about Rob per say but about ANYONE and try to keep a close eye on her, especially if she is somewhere that Rob may see her. You already warned his other daughter and what is done is done, just say no more about it unless you see her and she brings it up. Then listen to what she has to say and if it something bad, tell her she has to tell her mom and you make sure you tell her as well. That way you know she knows. Don't try to advise the other girl how to act around Rob or anyone anymore, just let her mom do that. Frankly, the drug abuse and violence should have been enough for her mom to keep Jasmine within eyes distance and try to get visitation that is only on a supervised basis if at all, and usually that means on a supervised basis. Maybe it was supervised and that is how she knows. Whatever the case is, it would be well if both of you moms steer clear of Rob whenever possible and if that means move and you can, I would. Just on the basis of drug abuse and violence. Too many women and their children end up dead when someone like that snaps. Rob may seem sweet when he is sober, I don't know, some of them are but some people on drugs take on whole new personalities when they are high and you never know when that will happen. It can also happen after they get treatment and become part of the withdrawls. The safest thing to do is to do all you can to protect yourself and family by getting and staying as far away as possible. Whether you do that or not, you should also seek the advice of a good counselor and let one help both of you through this time of stress as she will document the things you tell her and it may become necessary later in court to have her or him (the counselor), present to support your complaint. It is no joke when they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Keep that in mind and if you pray, pray often for families who are going through what Rob's families are and for Rob too because his life definitely needs some help, at the very least with anger and drugs and violence issues. I truly wish I could help you more but that is what counselors are for so I hope that you will see one for awhile. I also hope no one like Rob will come into your life again and that the lives of his past romantic efforts and those of himself and children will improve. God Bless.

Orange blossoms in the spring when the orchards are just starting to bloom, and the smell of Ojai when you drive down any street on a hot summer day. Also when I'm downtown and the fog is rolling in off the ocean the smell of the salty air is pungent. It can freeze the whole memory in my mind!!

It is a small, chubby, perky bird found on the west coast of

Florida (about 4-5" from tip of beak to tail). It has a longish, curved bill and is sort of speckled in a drabby color with a streak running across its eye that is black (or dark) and white. It was perched in my Night-blooming Jasmine bush. It had a very pleasant little song that was a prelude to the "VIDeo, VIDeo, VIDeo..." chorus. I've heard this bird many times, but today was the first time I actually saw one.

I'd like to locate a shop that has /or deals with night blooming Jasmine bushes. They arent in this area and I 'd like to know the bad points of trying to get a couple to grow here.Any suggestions,,I have gone to the local nursery ,,they said they can order one but they dont know anything about them..

Would you like some seeds? I can get some from our bushes and mail them to you. I did that for another within the answers community. I sure hoped they grew,he lived back east in the United States. I live in California. What do you need to know about them? They smell good in the summer, they grow,they are green, they seem to only grow seeds if it freezes (Don't ask me why on that one) They like warmer weather,but not direct sun, lots of water,feed in spring and end of summer, trim or prune back in early spring before new growth, but not while in bloom,you might need to stake them,they can get tall. You need to cover them in winter if it gets down to freezing,or you will lose them. Byee, Let me know about the seeds I'll see if there are any left on the bushes.

Thinning involves removing whole branches back to the trunk. This may be done to open up the interior of a plant to let more light in and to increase air circulation that can cut down on plant disease. The best way to begin thinning is to begin by removing dead or diseased wood.

Shearing is leveling the surface of a shrub using hand or electric shears. This is done to maintain the desired shape of a hedge or topiary.

Rejuvenating is removal of old branches or the overall reduction of the size of a shrub to restore its original form and size. It is recommended that you do not remove more than one third of a plant at a time. Remember to remove branches from the inside of the plant as well as the outside. When rejuvenating plants with canes, such as nandina, cut back canes at various heights so that plant will have a more natural look.

Conditions : Light and Plant Selection

For best plant performance, it is desirable to match the correct plant with the available light conditions. Right plant, right place! Plants which do not receive sufficient light may become pale in color, have fewer leaves and a "leggy" stretched-out appearance. Also expect plants to grow slower and have fewer blooms when light is less than desirable. It is possible to provide supplemental lighting for indoor plants with lamps. Plants can also receive too much light. If a shade loving plant is exposed to direct sun, it may wilt and/or cause leaves to be sunburned or otherwise damaged.

Conditions : Full Sun

Full Sun is defined as exposure to more than 6 hours of continuous, direct sun per day.

Watering

Tools : Watering Aides

No gardener depends 100% on natural rainfall. Even the most water conscious garden appreciates the proper hose, watering can or wand.

Watering Cans: Whether you choose plastic of galvanized makes no difference, but do look for generous capacity and a design that is balanced when filled with water. A 2 gallon can (which holds 18 lbs. of water) is preferred by most gardeners and is best suited for outdoor use. Indoor cans should be relatively smaller with narrower spouts and roses (the filter head).

Watering Hose: When purchasing a hose, look for one that is double-walled, as it will resist kinking. Quick coupler links are nice to have on ends of hoses to make altering length fast. To extend the life of your hose, keep it wound around a reel and stored in a shady area. Prior to winter freezes, drain hose.

Sprayers: Are commonly thought of as devices for applying chemicals, but can really be a step saver for watering houseplants or small pots of annuals rather that dragging out a hose or making numerous trips with a watering can. The backpack sprayer is best suited for this. Take care not to use any kind of chemical in tanks used for watering!

Sprinklers: Attached to the ends of garden hoses, these act as an economical irrigation system. Standing Spike Sprinklers are usually intended for lawns and deliver water in a circular pattern. Rotating Sprinklers deliver a circle of water and are perfect for lawns, shrubs and flower beds. Pulse-jet sprinklers cover large areas of ground in a pulsating, circular pattern. The head usually sits up on a tall stem, except for when watering lawns. Oscillating sprinklers are best for watering at ground level in a rectangular pattern.

Conditions : Moist

Moist is defined as soil that receives regular watering to a depth of 18 inch deep, does not dry out, but does not have a drainage problem either.

Conditions : Regular Moisture for Outdoor Plants

Water when normal rainfall does not provide the preferred 1 inch of moisture most plants prefer. Average water is needed during the growing season, but take care not to overwater. The first two years after a plant is installed, regular watering is important. The first year is critical. It is better to water once a week and water deeply, than to water frequently for a few minutes.

Conditions : Outdoor Watering

Plants are almost completely made up of water so it is important to supply them with adequate water to maintain good plant health. Not enough water and roots will wither and the plant will wilt and die. Too much water applied too frequently deprives roots of oxygen leading to plant diseases such as root and stem rots. The type of plant, plant age, light level, soil type and container size all will impact when a plant needs to be watered. Follow these tips to ensure successful watering:

* The key to watering is water deeply and less frequently. When watering, water well, i.e. provide enough water to thoroughly saturate the root ball. With in-ground plants, this means thoroughly soaking the soil until water has penetrated to a depth of 6 to 7 inches (1' being better). With container grown plants, apply enough water to allow water to flow through the drainage holes.

* Try to water plants early in the day or later in the afternoon to conserve water and cut down on plant stress. Do water early enough so that water has had a chance to dry from plant leaves prior to night fall. This is paramount if you have had fungus problems.

* Don't wait to water until plants wilt. Although some plants will recover from this, all plants will die if they wilt too much (when they reach the permanent wilting point).

* Consider water conservation methods such as drip irrigation, mulching, and xeriscaping. Drip systems which slowly drip moisture directly on the root system can be purchased at your local home and garden center. Mulches can significantly cool the root zone and conserve moisture.

* Consider adding water-saving gels to the root zone which will hold a reserve of water for the plant. These can make a world of difference especially under stressful conditions. Be certain to follow label directions for their use.

Planting

How-tos : Pruning Flowering Shrubs

It is necessary to prune your deciduous flowering shrub for two reasons: 1. By removing old, damaged or dead wood, you increase air flow, yielding in less disease. 2. You rejuvenate new growth which increases flower production.

Pruning deciduous shrubs can be divided into 4 groups: Those that require minimal pruning (take out only dead, diseased, damaged, or crossed branches, can be done in early spring.); spring pruning (encourages vigorous, new growth which produces summer flowers - in other words, flowers appear on new wood); summer pruning after flower (after flowering, cut back shoots, and take out some of the old growth, down to the ground); suckering habit pruning (flowers appear on wood from previous year. Cut back flowered stems by 1/2, to strong growing new shoots and remove 1/2 of the flowered stems a couple of inches from the ground) Always remove dead, damaged or diseased wood first, no matter what type of pruning you are doing.

Examples: Minimal: Amelanchier, Aronia, Chimonanthus, Clethra, Cornus alternifolia, Daphne, Fothergilla, Hamamelis, Poncirus, Viburnum. Spring: Abelia, Buddleia, Datura, Fuchsia, Hibiscus, Hypericum, Perovskia, Spirea douglasii/japonica, Tamarix. Summer after flower: Buddleia alternifolia, Calycanthus, Chaenomeles, Corylus, Cotoneaster, Deutzia, Forsythia, Magnolia x soulangeana/stellata, Philadelphus, Rhododendron sp., Ribes, Spirea x arguta/prunifolia/thunbergii, Syringa, Weigela. Suckering: Kerria

How-tos : Pinching and Thinning Perennials

Once you plant a perennial, it does not mean that you will enjoy years of maintenance-free gardening. Perennials need to be cared for just like any other plant. One thing that distinguishes perennials is that they tend to be active growers that have to be thinned out occasionally or they will loose vigor.

As perennials establish, it is important to prune them back and thin them out occasionally. This will prevent them from completely taking over an area to the exclusion of other plants, and also will increase air circulation thereby reducing the incidence of diseases like botrytis and powdery mildew.

Many species also flower abundantly and produce ample seed. As blooms fade it is advisable to deadhead your plant; that is, to remove spent flowers before they form seed. This will prevent your plants from seeding all over the garden and will conserve the considerable energy it takes the plant to produce seed.

As perennials mature, they may form a dense root mass that eventually leads to a less vigorous plant. It is advisable to occasionally thin out a stand of such perennials. By dividing the root system, you can make new plants to plant in another area of the garden or give away. Also root pruning will stimulate new growth and rejuvenate the plant. Most perennials may be successfully divided in either spring or fall. Do a little homework; some perennials do have a preference.

How-tos : Planting Shrubs

Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and deep enough to plant at the same level the shrub was in the container. If soil is poor, dig hole even wider and fill with a mixture half original soil and half compost or soil amendment.

Carefully remove shrub from container and gently separate roots. Position in center of hole, best side facing forward. Fill in with original soil or an amended mixture if needed as described above. For larger shrubs, build a water well. Finish by mulching and watering well.

If the plant is balled-and-burlapped, remove fasteners and fold back the top of natural burlap, tucking it down into hole, after you've positioned shrub. Make sure that all burlap is buried so that it won't wick water away from rootball during hot, dry periods. If synthetic burlap, remove if possible. If not possible, cut away or make slits to allow for roots to develop into the new soil. For larger shrubs, build a water well. Finish by mulching and watering well.

If shrub is bare-root, look for a discoloration somewhere near the base; this mark is likely where the soil line was. If soil is too sandy or too clayey, add organic matter. This will help with both drainage and water holding capacity. Fill soil, firming just enough to support shrub. Finish by mulching and watering well.

Problems

Fungi : Leaf Spots

Leaf spots are caused by fungi or bacteria. Brown or black spots and patches may be either ragged or circular, with a water soaked or yellow-edged appearance. Insects, rain, dirty garden tools, or even people can help its spread.

Prevention and Control: Remove infected leaves when the plant is dry. Leaves that collect around the base of the plant should be raked up and disposed of. Avoid overhead irrigation if possible; water should be directed at soil level. For fungal leaf spots, use a recommended fungicide according to label directions.

Miscellaneous

Conditions : Fall Color

Fall color is the result of trees or shrubs changing colors according to complex chemical formulas present in their leaves. Depending on how much iron, magnesium, phosphorus, or sodium is in the plant, and the acidity of the chemicals in the leaves, leaves might turn amber, gold, red, orange or just fade from green to brown. Scarlet oaks, red maples and sumacs, for instance, have a slightly acidic sap, which causes the leaves to turn bright red. The leaves of some varieties of ash, growing in areas where limestone is present, will turn a regal purplish-blue.

Although many people believe that cooler temperatures are responsible for the color change, the weather has nothing to do with it at all. As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, a chemical clock inside the trees starts up, releasing a hormone which restricts the flow of sap to each leaf. As fall progresses, the sap flow slows and chlorophyll, the chemical that gives the leaves their green color in the spring and summer, disappears. The residual sap becomes more concentrated as it dries, creating the colors of fall.

Reply:Jasmine varieties are generally considered evergreen and are not for the most part cold zone plants. It likes sun but should have some protection. If your plant is in good shape leaf and woody parts considered but has no blossoms then so far so good. If it is in a container, start by re-potting, checking to see if root bound, and if so lightly break up the circular pot shaped root ball to keep it from growing in that pot shape and strangling itself. Goldcoast Jasmine, J. dichotomum is probably your variety (zone 10 tropical), which is a white night flowering variety that will blossom continuously.Then, regardless of whether it is in a container or in the garden (in the US south Florida, south California, or south Texas), you need to feed it a higher phosphorus containing fertilizer, with trace elements. Phosphorus is the energy carrying element and is needed for flowering and root growth. The middle number of the fertilizer index of three numbers is the phosphorus (nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium). So use a 5-10-5 or a 10-20-10, etc. There are about a dozen trace elements so find a formulation that has as many as you can. Keep in mind that they are a lot of varieties, from an early to mid spring blossom to a summer blossom to a year round flowering so you may have missed this year but your work now will guarantee a huge blossom set next year on a very prolific plant. Check the variety if possible to be sure as greenhouses are not the best at assuring a variety. Use some dolomite lime also to adjust pH and provide calcium and magnesium if it is a garden plant, but if potted be careful or skip this part and make sure to use a house plant formula. The pH of the soil determines what level of availability all the elements will be at in the soil solution. At a low pH range or high pH range different elements are found too low or too high for the plant in question, which is why it is so important. Feed all your flowers and plants with the same formula above (and lime unless it's an acid lover) or use an 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 with a boost of super phosphate (0-20-0 or 0-30-0 etc) for flowers and root crops (and established new plants to boost roots). 8a, to be exact. Everything I've read says zone 10 and 11, but I'd really like to try. I've read that some people have been able to, but can't find any growing tips. I don't want to grow it indoors unless I have to, but I don't mind wintering it. I like it, but keeping it indoors the scent just gets too strong!

"Jasmine" covers a wide variety of shrubs and vines, some with fragrant flowers. The kind you are referring to may be a "Star Jasmine" for the shape of the flowers. In California and Arizona, it is often called night-blooming jasmine. If so, it is not a true jasmine, but rather a trachelospermum, aka trachelospermum jasminoides. This plant can be trained to vine up to 20 feet, or pinched back to form a spreading bush. It is very fragrant and has glossy green leaves and brilliant small, white flowers. Is that what you have?

It is widely planted in the temperate areas of the southwest and gulf states and can be sustained with some sheltering from frost down to zone 8. It is quite hardy and can survive dying back somewhat from frost. But, a hard frost, i.e. several days below freezing may kill it.

If you have that risk in our area, you might try planting it in a large container or half barrel of oak and move it to the south side of the house under an eave in the winter time. Nurseries and home improvement stores have three- or four-wheeled "tractors" that you can put large containers on to make the easier to move around.

Buy some root hormone from home depot or a nursery wet the end of the cutting dip it in the root hormone then carefully plant it wherever you want it and make sure the soil stays damp, also cover it like a greenhouse effect so it'll keep moist and protect it from full sun until it takes a good root . I'll take about a week for the hormone to help the root process, but if done right it'll defineately work evertime!

It seems happy enough, it grows well (outside) and has tripled in size since I bought it but i have never seen a flower? (it is 3 years old). Is it not self polinating?

It really needs good baking sunshine. I feed this and other plants that are reluctant to flower with Sulphat of Potash, which is the nutrient specifically needed to make flower production.

This doesn't mean that general fertising isn't good too, I just use this as a supplement, to ensure that the best chances of flowering are given.

You don't need another plant to get it to flower, pollination (self or from other plants) is only required for seed production.

I also mulch my night scented jasmine, to help it retain water, which is easily lost during hot dry summer days. You can use some well rotted farm manure, chopped bark or some rotted garden compost. All will help improve the soil condition too.

Iron supplements are readily available at garden/hardware centers...

Hey! Night Blooming Jasmine aka Night Jessamine.

'Botanical name': Cestrum nocturnum.

I have a shrub in a #15 sized (decorative) container. 10 years ago, when I lived in San Francisco - where they are 'rather common' and can grow into 2 storey specimens that fill the late August air with their pungent/sweet aroma - I started several new plants from semi-hard wood cuttings (2nd year growth which is partially woody and partially green) in the soil near the 'mother plant' in the fall. I took 8-10" cuttings, reduced the leaves by 90% and left at least 4-5 'nodes' - removed the lower leaves - and merely stuck them into the ground about 5". Winters in SF are generally cool and wet. By spring the cuttings had rooted and I was able to transplant them.

I moved to north to Sonoma County where we often get freezing night temps in the winter. Although the plant froze to the soil surface (in a container) it has sprouted and the plant is about 4' tall and now beginning to set bud. I used a 20-20-20 fert. and am now switching to 0-10-10 for abundant flowers.

I would say that any technique resembling the one mentioned above would do the trick. You could, if it is planted in the ground, bend a branch down to soil level, remove a section of leaves and bury a portion of it (using something for weight like a rock) in the soil. Roots will sprout from the old leaf scars after a few months (maximum.) You can then dig up the new start after cutting it from the original stem.

As far as starting them in water...I'd use the same technique as stated for starting semi-hard wood - being sure to reduce the leaves considerably. How long by water? I don't know.

(FYI: C. nocturnum is in the Solanaceae Family - aka the Potato family - they bear flowers that are nearly always star or saucer shaped and 5 petaled: fruits are berries or capsules. Plants are frequently rank smelling or even poisonous, but many are important food crops -- eggplant, pepper, potato, tomato. Others are garden annuals, perennials, shrubs or vines -- Browallia, Cestrum, Nicotiania and Petunia, to name a few...)

I hope this answers all your questions re: Night Blooming Jessamine. It is 'very easy' to propagate...

Reply:I have been successful with clippings from a rubber tree. What I did was cut a slit just above a branch. You spread the wound slightly, sprinkle it with Rootone, and wrap a cloth filled with potting soil around the branch. Then wrap plastic wrap around that. Keep the area moist.

Within a month, you should have a root system going in the dirt. That's the time to finish the incision and put it in a pot. I'd baby it through the winter indoors and wait until spring to put it out.

It grows fast, and the smell on large bushes can be overpowering on some summer evenings. I still love the smell of it though, and it's a wonderful plant to have!

I don't know what state (growing zone) you are in, but most gardens are about to go to sleep for the fall and winter. Unless you live in a very warm state such as southern Calif. or Florida, I'm sure your wonderful jasmine will soon loose it's flowers and close down for the winter.

If it is growing in a pot, you can keep it going through the winter by bringing it in the house and setting it in a south facing window. Don't forget to water it ever so often, it will need water. Stick your finger down into the soil about two inches and see if it feels dry. You can do this now too while it is outside.

i have a beautiful fragrant night blooming jasmine and its now on bloom. it lives in a pot and looked quite happy and healthy. lately it seems like its depressed with yellow leaves that have started from the bottom of the plant and now the leaves around the mid of the plants r turning yellow too. after it turns yellow it falls away. i fertilize it with liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks but still no help. it basically has no leaves around the bottom, right above the soil level. and i donno what i should do? should i crush some calcium tablets that us humans consume? i have no idea. pls help if u know these plants. thank you.

Help my night blooming jasmine. leaves r turning yellow.?
You are overwatering and over fertilising. It may need more sunlight.
Reply:sounds like over fertilizing it,, jasmines do that they will yellow and droop but once watered perk back up a few hrs later i had potted ones in the shade and looked great then put them in the ground in full sun and it takes a little while with care but they should bounce back they are definitly a watched over plant..

I have allergies to Night Blooming Jasmine, which seems to be the favorite plant in my neighborhood.

My neighbors will not remove those plants.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to lessen the symptoms and enjoy my evenings.?

You can wear pollen mask. These are cheap, but you will be looking weird to members of your family. But for me, I don't like medications, so I wear it until the season is over.

The usual standard answer is go to your medical provider and ask for allergy kit. Some medical providers have very good allergy kits depending on the symptoms you suffer.

My mother loves night blooming jasmine. So on Mothers Day, I went looking for one to plant under her bedroom window. I was told that all jasmine plants bloom at night and all give off that wonderful fragrance. BUT...the one I bought has begun to bloom and the blooms dont look look the same and you can't smell it at night - the fragrance isn't as strong as the plant we had when I was younger. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Reply:What you are looking for is Star Jasmine. It blooms all day and night. Gives off a wonderful aroma and on warm evenings it is even nicer. By the way, it loves sun and is evergreen. I'm in N. Calif. and mine is in full bloom right now.
Reply:I know the plants your Mom Loves. There are hundreds of different kinds of Jasmine. Maybe the person made a mistake when selling you the plant. I've been lucky to enjoy the ones planted under my bedroom window,by my Mom in the late 70's. (God,I still live at home?) We Bought Moms house. I've never seen seeds on them until this year.I think because this is the first year it froze since she planted them. I have a bag full of seeds, your welcome to have them. Bye
Reply:Angel Wing Jasmine may suffice but perhaps only as a house plant. It has a very sweet smell, and is high maintenance, not sure where you live and whether the plant can handle the climate, but check into it.

Reply:Try night blooming Honeysuckle. It's smell is so beautiful and intense. The actual name of the plant is Lonicera periclymenum (L.)) The one in my garden has deep purple vine shoots with lovely contrasting leaves. When it blooms it has creamy white and fuscia flowers which smell like perfume.

I live in the moderate Haight Ashbry in San Francisco, CA and would like to plant a few Night Jasmine (NOT Star Jasmine)...wondering what month is best.

Not using cuttings....transfering an actual root ball.

The plant you refer to is commonly known as the Night Blooming Jasmine or Night Jessamine. It is not a true jasmine. The correct name to purchase it under is Cestrum nocturnum. Blooming at night, its fragrance is so powerful that people can and have developed allergic reactions. Be wise not to plant too close to open bedroom windows. The scent can very easily and quickly become nauseating! It is potent beyond belief and can be smelled from blocks away! The plant will reach approximately 12 feet at maturity. Easy to grow and tough to kill when established, it's growth can become rangy. When this happens, simply prune and new growth will reappear soon. As you have decided to plant a potted nursery speciman, any time of year is appropriate in San Francisco. You may not see active growth until late spring in your area as the bay keeps the warmer temps of summer at "bay!" Best of Luck!

The flowers of honeysuckle and night jasmine look a lot similar. Are they the same species and do they smell similar too?

They are not closely related.

The honeysuckle plants are in the plant family Caprifoliaceae and genus Lonicera. Honeysuckle include Lonicera periclymenum the Woodbine or Lonicera sempervirens the coral honeysuckle. They attract both butterflies and moths with the paler, fragrant flowers but attract hummingbirds with the vividly color species like Lonicera sempervirens.

However the Night Scented or Night Blooming Jasmine is Cestrum nocturnum in the plant family Solance and Genus Cestrum.

The reason the flowers are similar in structure is they are both pollinated by Lepidoptera (butterflies %26amp; moths) or hummingbirds but all with long tongues. Night flying moths visit pale colored blossoms like the jasmine with strong evening %26amp; night released scents for nectar %26amp; pollination while hummingbirds visit bright colored tubular flowers. Butterflies go for a range of colors as long as they are sweetly scented in the day.
